“..when faced with the impossible, the mind would always try to find reason. It would always try to find a suitable cause for something as horrific as fire and brimstone in the damn middle of the ocean. ” – Dean
The Scars I Bare by J.L. Berg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This story was not what I was expecting! It packs a powerful punch! This book was very emotional from start to finish. My heart ached for Dean and Cora. They both have been through so much physically and emotionally. Dean is man who is emotionally damaged and he has the scars to remind him of his tragedy everyday. His sliver lining that helped heal him after his accident was nurse Cora. Cora had lots of painful secrets that she keeps hidden with lies. These two’s souls called to each other. Can they take a chance and learn to trust and love again? The light in this story is lizzie, Cora’s 5-year-old daughter. Lizzie had my heart instantly! She is a little walking talking encyclopedia. I just loved her! This story was a beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional journey! I loved this book and highly recommend it! It was a very touching read. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Meet J. L. Berg:
I’m a California native, who lives in the South – Virginia to be exact. I still prefer sushi to fried chicken, avocados to okra, and I absolutely loathe humidity. I do love watching the seasons change though. My husband and I have been here for over a decade, and I still get giddy like a school girl every time it snows. It’s magical!
I’m married to my high school sweetheart, and we’ve been blessed with two beautiful daughters and two rescue pups I like to call my “coworkers”. I’m obsessed with chocolate, minions, anything Harry Potter and I love to watch re-runs of Friends and Gilmore Girls!
